Tuesday 10:15 am update:
Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam will talk at a 3:30 pm press conference on the incident that left actor Jeremy Renner critically injured and required the “Avengers” star to be airlifted to a Reno hospital on New Year’s Day.
In a statement Monday night, Renner’s family said he was in the intensive care unit after having surgery.
The actor has a home near Mt. Rose-Ski Tahoe resort. It has been reported that he was injured while operating a snow plow on his property. The sheriff’s office and Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District responded to the incident at 9 am Sunday.
The sheriff’s office would not comment on whether Renner was injured while trying to help a stranded motorist after a snow storm closed mountain passes and dumped at least 3 feet of snow in the area of Renner’s home off the Mt. Rose Highway.
The sheriff’s office would only say that Tuesday’s media briefing will clarify information that is being reported worldwide on the popular actor.
Renner has had a home on a mountain pass between Reno and Incline Village for the last several years. Renner often posts on social media from his home in Nevada, calling Tahoe his “happy place.”

Monday 6:55 pm update: Actor Jeremy Renner got out of a snowplow he has at his home on the side of a snowy mountain to help a stranded car on New Year’s Day when he was run over by his own vehicle, according to Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve.
A statement from his family released Monday said Renner has blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries and is in the intensive care unit after surgery stemming from the accident near his home on Mt. Rose Highway, 25 minutes from downtown Reno.
Schieve told the Reno Gazette Journal on Monday night that she was called when the accident happened on Sunday morning. She said she and the Avengers star are friends.
“He was helping someone stranded in the snow,” Schieve said. “He is always helping others.”
Schieve said that Renner has helped the community more than most people know over the years.
“He’s always calling and saying, ‘Hey Mayor, what do you need?'”
She said he has helped donate to multiple charities, most of which he never publicizes.
“There are a few times he’ll post about what he has done or donated toys, but most of it you would never know he is doing,” Schieve said.
Schieve was thanked by name in the statement released by Renner’s family Monday night. The statement said Renner was in the intensive care unit in critical but stable condition.
“Jeremy’s family would like to express their gratitude to the incredible doctors and nurses looking after him, Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue, Washoe County Sheriff, Reno City Mayor Hillary Schieve and the Carano and Murdock families,” the statement said. “They are also tremendously overwhelmed and appreciative of the outpouring of love and support from his fans.”
Schieve said the Caranos and Murdocks, both longtime casino families, have grown close to Renner through his charity work.
4:30 pm update: CNN is reporting that actor Jeremy Renner has had two surgeries after being transported via an emergency helicopter ambulance to a Reno hospital.
The news network said they received the information from a source close to the actor. Renner has a home off Mt. Rose Highway, about 25 minutes from downtown Reno and often posts on social media about the snow.
The source said Renner’s injuries are extensive. Renown Regional Medical Center, the only trauma center in Northern Nevada, has not returned a request for comment on whether the “Avengers” star is being treated at its hospital.
The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office said they were called to an incident involving the actor around 9 am Sunday.
Original post: The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office has launched an accident investigation into an incident that required “Avengers” star Jeremy Renner to be transported via a helicopter ambulance to a Reno hospital Sunday morning.
Renner, who has been nominated for two Oscars and plays superhero Hawkeye in the Marvel cinematic universe, has a home off Mt. Rose Highway.
Multiple media outlets have said the 51-year-old was injured while plowing snow and is in critical condition.
It comes following a New Year’s Eve snowstorm in northwestern Nevada. Nearby ski resort Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe reported more than three feet of snow Saturday into Sunday morning.
“We can confirm Jeremy is in critical but stable condition with injuries suffered after experiencing a weather-related accident while plowing snow earlier today,” Renner’s spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter.
The sheriff’s office said they responded at 9 am and the actor was the only one involved in the incident.
“Upon arrival, deputies coordinated with Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District and REMSA Health to arrange for medical transport of Mr. Jeremy Renner via care flight to a local area hospital,” the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office said.
While the name of the hospital was not released, Renown Regional Medical Center is the only trauma center in Northern Nevada.
The sheriff’s office major accident investigation team is looking into the incident.
