Nick Carter is supported by his sister Angel and AJ McLean ahead of Aaron Carter’s concert

Nick Carter was supported by family and friends ahead of a benefit concert for his late younger brother Aaron Carter in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

The Backstreet Boys star, 42 – who recently penned an emotional song for Aaron – was joined by his sister Angel Conrad, 35, who was Aaron’s twin, and his band member pal AJ McLean, 45, as well as singer Ryan Cabrera, 40.

Carter’s sister hosted the event, titled Songs for Tomorrow, along with NSYNC’s Lance Bass, 43, with proceeds benefitting On Our Sleeves, the movement for children’s mental health.

The event — inspired by Aaron’s struggles with mental illness — took place at HEART, Lance’s nightlife venue in West Hollywood.

A description for the concert read: ‘At an early age, Aaron started showing symptoms of mental illness. Unfortunately, as is common for many individuals experiencing mental health difficulties, Aaron did not receive the treatment that could have helped him, despite the tireless efforts of Angel and those who loved him.’

‘His life is a cautionary tale and one that has inspired Angel to work with On Our Sleeves to raise awareness and help other families by giving them the opportunity to write a different story.’

The day before the event Nick took to his Instagram to share a snap of himself, AJ and Lance rehearsing.

‘We are so thankful for all of the love & support in advance of tomorrow night’s benefit concert. It is so wonderful to see so many people come together for such an important cause,’ he wrote in the caption.

Meanwhile Angel shared a touching video montage of Aaron, featuring clips of him and Nick in their youth.

‘Aaron was a very funny, quirky, silly person. Very lighthearted. What he lived for was for loving and for connecting people,’ she said in the moving video.

It’s important to celebrate his life and carry on his legacy to help others. If we help one person, we’re doing our work.’

In the clip Nick was seen performing his song ‘Hurts to Love You’ which he wrote for Aaron after his passing and released on January 11, with moving lyrics including: ‘Cause it hurts to love you but I love you still/ Miss you with all my heart, you know I’ll always will.’

The emotional song details his ‘rollercoaster relationship’ with his late brother, with the first verse reading: ‘Felt like we’ve been through some wars together/ Nobody else can understand/ Weeks and many nightmares to remember/ But that was real life back then.’

Nick goes on to say, ‘Always hoped your tomorrow/ Would be better than the days before/ I hoped you’d find your road to follow/ To a place you were happy in this world’ before breaking into chorus.

Nick – who broke down on stage at London’s O2 as he performed with the Backstreet Boys less than 24 hours after his brother’s death – had a fractured relationship with Aaron.

Following Aaron’s passing, Nick posted several throwback photos of the two of them together and wrote: ‘My heart has been broken today.’

He continued: ‘Even though my brother and I have had a complicated relationship, my love for him has never ever faded.’

In 2019 Nick filed a restraining order against Aaron, alleging he threatened to kill his pregnant wife and unborn child.

That same year Aaron revealed on ‘The Doctors’ that he was diagnosed with ‘multiple personality disorder, schizophrenia, acute anxiety and manic depression,’ according to CNN.
